About Me

I have 11+ years of experience in engineering and have worked in various fields, including laser processing/research, quality, robotics, and software. Through and through, I am a problem solver with persistence and the ability to learn quickly.

See my LinkedIn profile or resume for more details.

Highlights

  • BS, MS in Materials Science & Engineering; Thesis: Analysis of Laser-Induced Spallation of Electron Beam Physical Vapor Deposited (EB-PVD) Thermal Barrier Coatings
  • Developed a futuristic-looking and interactive marketing app for iPad using the Unity game engine. This app will supplement facility tours and provide interesting information through 3D building models, 360 images of interiors, and informational documents. (Client decided against releasing)
  • Integrated the OpenCV library and detection algorithms to track pupil position for rudimentary concussion assessment on a mobile device.
  • Doubled throughput of laser micromachined parts and reduced scrap rate from 10% to <1%.

Interests

My personal interests include:

  • VR/AR/MR: I have been fascinated by this world since I purchased the Oculus DK1 back in late 2013. Although the gaming world provides fun experiences, the development of novel display methodologies, training, and collaboration for businesses will help advance maturity and adoption.
  • Video / Board Games: Although I play a wide variety, RPGs and strategy games are my favorites. I also love cooperative board games where it is humans vs. the game.
  • Making Things: Over the years, I have made wands from Harry Potter, some daggers, and various things on the lathe.

Professional

  • Smart Things / Automation: As my earliest programs can attest to, I love automation. Automating tasks, especially ones someone finds tedious is always a passion project for me; they allow me to be useful, help someone, and solve problems. Although smart devices are on my to-do list, most of my automation to date has been done through Microsoft Excel/Access (VBA), makefiles, and command-line scripting.
  • Planning / Organization: As a person who loves structure and planning, I am always interested in new, or new-to-me, ways of thinking, organizing information, and tracking problems. Some of my favorites are mind maps, kanban boards, and mental models.
